From the young age of 13 in Lexington
Kentucky, the future Mrs. Abraham Lincoln had a dream of traveling to
Washington City to “dance a Cotillion in the Executive Mansion” and becoming
the wife of the President. As the wife
of Abraham Lincoln, the dream came true in 1861 at the time of our country’s greatest
trial. This program provides the
opportunity to learn more about our 16th First Lady as portrayed by
Joanne Shelby. Miss Shelby has done
extensive research to develop the mannerisms and dress of this interesting
lady, perhaps the most reviled First Lady in history. History comes alive as Miss Shelby shares Mrs. Lincoln’s
perspective of the Civil War, life with her husband and children, and life as
First Lady. Miss Shelby bears an
uncanny resemblance to this First Lady including height, body shape and hair
color.
